My Backyard is EVERYTHING. I Think I Live Here Now!

Hey y’all hey! Y’all, the pandemic got me all messed up! Half the time I don’t know whether I’m coming or going but I’M HERE and still frugal as ever! I know it has been nearly a year since I’ve written a blog post and I promise I’ll try to do better in 2021. I’m finally faithfully using a planner again so I will stay on top of these blogs if it kills me.

So let me catch y’all up…

I know last year I told y’all about how coronavirus had me doing all kinds of things I never thought I’d be doing (kinda like when I lost my job in 2019 and started my side hustle). I’ve fenced in the back yard, added a patio, created 3 or 4 garden beds, added a stepping stone walkway, a gazebo, table, chairs, patio furniture that had been in boxes in my garage for nearly 3 years, started going to FSU to get my MPA, revamped my business logo and website, added a new product that is sellin like crazy, and revamped the whole back yard once again including the hardtop gazebo I’ve always wanted.

Y’all caught that I’m finally back in school to get my Masters tho? Yassssss hunty! Ya girl is making money moves all 2021 so gon n get into it!

Anyway, back to this backyard of mine. Y’all I think I live there now! It is my absolute FAVORITE place; my peace. I power washed, stained and sealed my year old patio tiles to completely change the look of my outdoor space. Special thanks to my cousin for his handiwork installing the gazebo! I’ve fallen asleep in my new gazebo more times than I can count. I even had a yoga session, followed by wine of course, on the patio last night.

When I tell y’all it was work… it was W O R K. But I made it happen and I love the way it turned out. I used Behr Premium Semi-Transparent Flat Interior/Exterior Decorative Concrete Stain and Behr Wet Look Sealer to make it happen.

Check out the before and after of those tiles tho….

I gonna go ahead and plug a product.

So I was in Home Depot minding my own business looking for dark brown spray paint for a grey side table in my gazebo. I promise I do nothing but rehab and paint things since coronavirus but that’s neither here nor there. Anyway, I always get Rust-Oleum because it always works for me. Well, I looked to my left and saw outdoor fabric paint. I have grey patio chairs that don’t fit the decor (and need a major power wash btw) but they were on sale at Aldi so I have them and a wicker chair I got while thrifting that has the ugliest cushion in it. Maybe this will work?

Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Paint in Burnt Orange

I watched a couple of YouTube videos and the consensus seemed to be that it went on splotchy and didn’t look so nice when finished. They also said the $12/can cost was entirely too much considering you need 5 plus cans to complete small jobs. I even saw a few videos on how to do the same thing with regular spray paint but I’m still on the fence about that.

So I purchased 2 cans of the outdoor fabric paint and had the kids help me tape up the metal parts of the patio chairs and sit them in the grass. I had 6 chairs and one cushion to do. Y’all, 2 cans was NOT gon cut it so the people were right. I ended up purchasing 3 more cans and using about 1/4 of the fifth can to complete the job.

What I will say is this- if you spray in a sweeping motion and only do on initial coat, allow it to dry about 30 mins then go back over it it does not dry splotchy. Also, DO NOT try and do it in high heat or humidity. I live in South Florida and noticed most of the reviews commented about the heat and humidity affecting the look. It was a cool 72 degrees the evening I did this. It dried completely and the fabric didn’t feel crunchy or hard. It has also rained super heavy several times since I painted them and they still look the same. Overall I will say I LOVE the way my chairs and cushion turned out and how they now match the rest of my decor. Of course DIY home projects NEVER end. Not only have I also painted the walkway tiles, I’ve decided to stain the front porch and walkway as well so pray for a sista please.

Until next time!
