Have you read Miss Pearly’s Girls by @reshonda_tate?

I just finished and whewww chile the last several chapters nearly knocked me down. This was not a slow read. It’s one of those stories that grips you from the opening pages and never loosens its hold.

The story follows four estranged sisters, Maxine the eldest, twins Stella & Star the middle sisters and Leslie the youngest, who are forced to return to their small hometown after their mother becomes ill. Each sister gets a voice, but the story is anchored through Maxine. As they come back together, long-buried secrets and carefully maintained lies surface piece by piece. What unfolds and the way it unfolds is relentless!

I was captivated by the pacing, the emotional tension, and the way the past refused to stay contained. This is a family story that understands how history lingers and how silence shapes people in different ways.

Content warning: this book includes rape.

If you enjoy layered family stories, multiple perspectives, and narratives that are straight no chaser, this one is definitely worth your time.
