Yes, THAT Endiya Carter. The one who painted the world the infamous Danger Brothers live in.
While this one didn’t have me caught up like the Danger Series, I enjoyed it just the same.
Jaymi the rebellious daughter of an overbearing pastor. He enlists his deacon’s son Marshall to “watch over her” which involves persuading this grown ass man to allow Jaymi to live in his home since he’s a truck driver and barely around. She was 23 when she moved in and he is thirteen years her senior. Grant it, they are both adults but I’m still trying to understand what the pastor thought was gon’ happen?
Her parents are toxic, controlling and treat her like crap. On the other side, there’s Marshall and his gaslighting ass daddy, a deacon no less. He has been manipulating and blackmailing Marshall for the past 20 years over his mother’s untimely death, which is the main reason he allowed Jaymi to stay. Marshall has been battling demons no one (outside of his 2 closest friends) knows about throughout the story. Jaymi has been dealing with toxic friendships as well.
For two years Jaymi would casually flirt with him, and he paid her no mind. His holier than thou girlfriend Laiana was never ok with Jaymi being there and went out of her way to make sure everyone, especially Jaymi and Marshall, knew. Marshall would always defend Jaymi to his girlfriend saying she’s just a child. But that “child” is a literal temptress lol. Marshall can no longer fight his growing attraction to Jaymi, and she willingly submitted to him after one drunken night. From that point on he wanted nothing more than to love and protect her.
Baby this one was messy and filled with drama but the two of them finding solace in one another and overcoming their dark pasts together was beautiful. And while it didn’t have me losing my mind like the Danger series, I enjoyed every bit.
TW: controlling parents, manipulation, blackmail, gaslighting, toxic friendships
Rating: Messy never looked so good. 👏🏾
