If you thought Maverick was the only Caselli who could command a room, let’s talk about Landon “The Don” Caselli. This is book two of the Caselli Family and listen… Landon is exactly who he thinks he is.
I’ll be honest — when the story opened, I didn’t know where this was going. It really seemed like Don and Kennedy were the play. But the moment that flip switched and he met Navy Bleu at that party? I knew it was a wrap for whatever they thought they had. There was an instant ease there. Just from talking to her for a minute, you could see the shift in him.
One of the most beautiful parts of this book was Navy’s family. Seeing their culture and their relationship with one another on full display was top tier. The way they authentically showed up for Navy and eventually for Don was everything. Through them, Don finally got to experience a type of love he couldn’t get from his own parents. But it didn’t just change him. Navy’s family caused a shift in the entire Caselli circle, allowing them to be more warm and open as the story progressed.
That turning point when Menace and Zoya finally sat Don down to talk about their parents, since he had no true memories of them? That was the growth he needed. I also loved when Menace’s cold heart opened the moment he decided Don was ready to take his place and the pride he consistently showed in him thereafter.
But yo, I STILL can’t get over how funny Menace is. That is probably one of my favorite characters ever in a book. No matter who is narrating (books 1 and 2 had different narrators and I really hate that for me, sigh) I laugh so damn hard, sometimes til I cry at his scenes. From never calling anyone by their real names to the off the wall shit he claims people say that they never said. He is hilarious.
Watching Don love on Navy? I felt like Denzel Washington in Training Day just nodding my head saying, “My man!” From the first time he acted on something she’d mentioned on a blog, a video or in passing, you knew he was locked in. That man bought her a whole damn NBA team that her trash ass ex was signed to play for. Be for fuckin real!
Their communication was elite. They talked about everything without judgment, shame or remorse. And while Don was definitely possessive, he wasn’t jealous. He didn’t fly off the handle about anything, not even Antoine, because he knew he didn’t have competition. It went beyond the billionaire status and even beyond what he put down in the bedroom. It was just that air of confidence he had. He knew nobody was messing with how he was coming when he wanted someone. Oh, and Antoine definitely got off easy. One thing about the Caselli men though, they do not play about their women.
And can we talk about Kennedy? She was trash and got exactly what she deserved at every turn. The way she played in that man’s face then had the nerve to try and flip it on him? Chile, bye. I am so glad he walked away and never looked back because what he found with Navy was on another level.
Now, I don’t want to give away spoilers but baby… the sex scenes in this damn book?
The goddamn housekeeper?
That first time with Navy? And every single damn time after?
The library at the proposal?!
The floor in Navy’s new quiet place?!
Chile, chile, chile. The Don is definitely The Don. Landon didn’t just bring the heat, he brought his whole soul. If you want a story where he is as obsessed with her mind and her family as he is with her body, Don Caselli is the one.
TW: violence, dark themes, toxic relationships
Rating: The Don came to collect and left nothing on the table.
