I just finished this book and I need a collective minute to gather myself. Let me start off by apologizing to THEE Diesel Danger because… sigh, I feel I now have a new favorite MMC 😩.
I LOVE Vayce. He screams BDE and I was happy to find out it wasn’t my imagination.
So Vayce Denver is a school counselor at the school Jersei Lane’s son Zion attends. They meet after Zion gets into a “scuffle” at school, but the connection quickly shifts from professional concern to a slow, steady burn. The way he handled Jersei in that office the first time they met?! They didn’t even know one another and not only did he shut her up and calm her attitude, he straight up told her he’s a grown ass man and if he wanted her he could have her. My jaw was on the floooooooor!
Now Jersei was my type of woman from jump. I don’t know HOW she maintained her cool after catching her man of ten years cheating. Not just cheating but cheating with another goddamn man. But before we get to that, Jersei girl, now you knew better than to date somebody, have a baby, and still not have a damn ring after TEN years. If that’s truly what you wanted, you should’ve put his ass on notice and moved accordingly. But anyway, back to this triflin ass Solomon, the fuckin nerve of him. And then tried to gaslight her like she was in the wrong. I’m glad he got wtf he deserved in the end.
I loved Jersei and her cousin Harmony’s relationship, and I don’t feel enough attention was given to it. There seemed to be a story there as well. But thank goodness Harmony dragged her out the house to the strip club or we wouldn’t have gotten her and Vayce in the raw. Their chemistry was undeniable and they definitely would’ve gotten together regardless, but that night alone just talking and being open with one another sparked something deep.
Now Vayce was a man. I feel like the therapist in him made him unbelievably emotionally intelligent. Yes, people are using that term entirely too much, but he literally is. His communication skills were top tier. He was so damn respectful to Jersei, her body and her emotions. He was kind and loving. That was apparent with his relationship with his incarcerated mother and baby sister. This man was the total package. Of course, they had to throw something in there to make him unperfect lol, so they went with him being a retired drug dealer. Ok and? He used his power for good in every aspect, taking care of his hood and his sister, so I was happy when Jersei applauded him after he had an honest conversation with her about it. I loved how free they both were with one another. The goofy/silly way they were just free with one another from day one is cute as hell and I loved it.
And whewwww chile back to Vayce. Not only was I in awe of the way he handled her body because my gawd tuhday…. the sex scenes in this damn book right here! He talked her through every damn thing! And the mirror scene? Because man, what? This man was a romantic, considerate, pleasure dom type of menace and he deserved head every single day of his life.
But what really got me was the way he stepped in for Jersei’s son Zion. He was already his counselor at school, but he knew not to overstep and how to separate the two relationships. It was beautifully written and I loved the connection between Vayce and Zion. And when he put triflin ass Solomon in his place? Baby. A MAN, you hear me???!!!
A must read that’s entirely too short and definitely left me wanting more.
TW: infidelity, incarceration
Rating: Vayce Denver is the blueprint.🖤
