Dear Black Girl, never give up

December 14, 2021December 16, 2021 ~ Dear Black Grl ~ Leave a comment

So this MPA program at Florida State University was almost the death of me. I started in August, 2020 (this was a pandemic baby). I am not a fan of any advanced level math class and since they weren't a requirement for me in undergrad I was unprepared for the chaos that was PAD 5701 … Continue reading Dear Black Girl, never give up

Do It Afraid

October 23, 2021October 23, 2021 ~ Dear Black Grl ~ Leave a comment

On September 1, 2021 at approximately 11:30am I was called into the Director's office by HR, sat down at the table with the rep and my supervisor and handed a piece of paper explaining that the department had decided to reorganize and my position was one of the ones eliminated. As I continued to listen, … Continue reading Do It Afraid

April 14, 2021October 23, 2021 ~ Dear Black Grl ~ Leave a comment

Hey y'all hey! Y'all, the pandemic got me all messed up! Half the time I don't know whether I'm coming or going but I'M HERE and still frugal as ever! I know it has been nearly a year since I've written a blog post and I promise I'll try to do better in 2021. I'm … Continue reading My Backyard is EVERYTHING. I Think I Live Here Now!

But all lives matter

June 2, 2020March 22, 2021 ~ Dear Black Grl ~ Leave a comment

โ€œThe entire point of Black Lives Matter is to illustrate the extent to which black lives have not mattered in this country.โ€ Black and brown lives have NEVER been included in "all lives" in the history of this world. And I keep seeing this all lives matter kumbaya bullshit over and over. No! We are … Continue reading But all lives matter

Coronavirus thoughts

May 17, 2020May 17, 2020 ~ Dear Black Grl ~ Leave a comment

I've learned so many different things since schools closed and we've had to deal with working from home and homeschooling our children. Before the District moved to online school, our household already had a plan in place for our kids (Candi Odum Gauff thanks for the model we used to create our plan). We rotated … Continue reading Coronavirus thoughts

Backyard livin!

May 5, 2020May 5, 2020 ~ Dear Black Grl ~ Leave a comment

Y'all... I created the backyard of my dreams! I mean it's not my favorite saved Pinterest backyard but dammit it's as close as I'm gonna get on my budget๐Ÿ™„ Isn't it lovely! And we did it ourselves! Seriously, me and my 12 and 13 year old daughters did the patio and walkway ourselves. I'm still … Continue reading Backyard livin!

That’s Not How Any Of This Works

February 7, 2020February 7, 2020 ~ Dear Black Grl

"What is a legacy? Itโ€™s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see." -Lin-Manuel Miranda, "Hamilton, An American Musical" Settlement agreements happen every single day in and out of court. Many factors contribute to them but they are often done to avoid trial, avoid admitting guilt, lower costs or just allow both sides to move … Continue reading That’s Not How Any Of This Works

One man’s trash

January 13, 2020January 13, 2020 ~ Dear Black Grl ~ Leave a comment

So ok today we're gonna talk repurposing. Let me just put it out there... if it's not on sale or clearance I probably wont buy it and I live to thrift. In my area we have Goodwill, of course, and a couple of other thrift stores I frequent such as American Thrift, Good Life Super … Continue reading One man’s trash

Hunty!!! Let me tell you how I experienced Le Diner En Blanc for the first time to close out 2019.  And of course I did it in true frugal fashion.  My entire look cost under $45 and we pooled our resources to create an elegant looking dining experience for under $40 as well! Le Diner … Continue reading Diner En Blanc West Palm Beach 2019

Baby listen, papa Hassan was definitely a rolling stone! Clear Water is the fifth book in Nina's Porter family series, and it is officially my FAVORITE. CHILEโ€ฆ the Porter men will take you TF through it! The On Us trilogy by Nina had my jaw on the floor. If you thought Front St. Porter was wild, this trilogy opens Pandora's box. It is a whole other level of messy, toxic, and deeply emotional. What you know about them Porter men? Kindle kept pushing On Us by Nina on me, so I started reading it. Yo, Sav had me in TEARS laughing and I hadnโ€™t fully finished the damn book. If you know me, you know your girl likes spice and romance, so thrillers aren't usually my thing. I had Score by Kennedy Ryan on hold forever and the minute that notification popped up I was immediately tuned in. To China With Love by Erica Denise. China's Valentine's trip to Jamaica was already paid for, her man played himself, so she had 30 days to find a replacement. Bronx had just been released after a wrongful conviction, pulled up on his raggedy baby momma mid situation and found out she had also been abusing his son. His cousin Niq said let's take a vacation. Y'all act like I only read raunchy books with thugged out MMCs... AND DO! But I also read stuff like this. Y'all... I'm finally finished with all 6 books of the Porters/Front St/On Us series by Nina & whewww chile I am NOT ok. The Remedy by @edenisepennedit
