Right now I am numb and have no words. Masks have been pulled off of so many people over the past 10 years and while it pains me to a certain degree, it also validates my rage.
Tonight, some very real truths have changed how I view everyone and everything. They have also changed the messages I will give my daughters moving forward.
Dear Black grl, never forget….
Black people have no allies and feminism is not for you or about you. Full stop.
Black women and girls are the most hated and unprotected beings on the planet. Guard yourself at all times. Trust that uncomfortable feeling you get when you’re “the only” in any space. Don’t ignore microaggressions, call them out every time. Make them uncomfortable.
People will smile in your face, call you friend, and still choose white supremacy, racism, hatred, and misogynoir every 👏🏾 single 👏🏾 time 👏🏾 then laugh at your pain. Protect yourself and your peace.
Your blackness and womanhood are no match for misogynoir but be bold and unapologetic anyway.
You are not a “person of color”, you are Black. whiteness is seen as power, status, and wealth and non-Blacks will stand with whiteness every single time. They not like us.
There is NOTHING united about AmeriKKKa or the world. By the people, for the people never included Black people. You are free, for now, but they will never see you as equal.
White supremacy will always win, yet you still have to be twice as good and twice as smart. The goal post will continue to be pushed back, but go hard AF every single time.
Stand proud no matter what. Advocate for yourself. Choose your blackness and womanhood over anyone and anything.
Choose your own best interests, every time, every situation, even when you stand alone.
I no longer believe that we will overcome but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t. Let no one take your voice.
Your Black is beautiful. Black lives matter. And you are enough.✊🏾

This is so well written and passionate – but not emotional. (I hope that makes sense.) Passionate writing evokes emotions from the reader – that is good writing.
The paragraph “White supremacy will always win, yet you still have to be twice as good and twice as smart. The goal post will continue to be pushed back…” Thirty-eight years in the classroom and I saw a brief period of “hope and change”, but sadly, you are right. I respect that you speak the truth.
The second paragraph from the end “I no longer believe that we will overcome, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t. Let no one take your voice.” Oh, my. That hurt my heart.
I thought of one of my favorite people that I used to read about and squeeze in any way I could during my last few years teaching- John Lewis of GA. He kept the faith. He continued to believe. He never stopped . And I don’t know how. I do not know how he never gave up.
So. Don’t give up either. I will stand by you as long as I can stand or you can push me along.
