Now Capri!
Girl, I’m not gon’ lie. Yo spoiled ass got on my nerves in the Capo and Capp books. Between Naheim, Kincaid and the constant flirty vibes with Quameer every time she saw him or he was sent to protect her I was like DAMN she runnin through her brothers’ homies.
But baby, once the story became yours? I became a huge fan of Big Mama Pri.
After everything she had gone through with Naheim, his constant cheating, lying to her, then getting her frenemy Tasha pregnant while they were together, to the divorce, to her helping him raise the baby. I won’t pretend I was mad when she finally got her lick back with Kincaid tho. I didn’t think she would try to make it work with him and still think she only did it to save face and to spite Naheim and everyone she felt was already judging her.
Book 1
Book 1 showed so much vulnerability. Capri was the baby but because she was the only girl I felt she had so much on her back. When Meer met her at the airport the day she was flying out to Bali for a full year to find herself, I knew these two were in it for the long haul. I still think about the Cappadonna book where they did karaoke the first time and he sang his heart out to her. He would also say things to her in Portuguese and it shocked her to learn he knew a second language. She didn’t understand it at the time but he once told her “I’m that man for you” after telling her one day it won’t hurt anymore because someone will come along and make her feel everything she was missing. That man was SPRUNG you hear me?! But he wasn’t going to make a move until he knew she had gotten everyone else out of her system.
When she came back from Bali, it was on. Quameer was so patient and gentle with her and allowed her to be soft. He actually courted her, communicated with her and got to know her. They became best friends and I loved watching their love story unfold. I also loved watching her relationship with her sisters in law, niece in law, nieces, nephews and friends bloom. Having women around that loved and supported her helped her come into her own.
But baby, when Meer sat his dad, brother, Capri’s dad and brothers down and came to them as a man about wanting that woman? Chile, my FAVORITE part of this whole damn book was the aftermath of that! Meer tore that thang out the frame! And I love that for Capri lol
Finding out Corleon was their brother?! Chile. Corleon and Menace are best friends, damn near brothers so it was crazy making that connection.
Book 1.5
Book 1.5 gives the backstory for Corleon and how he is Des and Jean’s biological as well as why he didn’t grow up with them. The brothers finally meeting and interacting with Corleon was so touching. Also the moment he, Des and Jean got together had me sheddin tears. I fully enjoyed Capri stepping into her role as ADA to hold it down for her fam. I loved seeing Quameer put Brandi’s raggedy self in her place but when Capri checked her? Yes ma’am!!! They both tried to respect her as his daughter’s mother, but she continued to overstep out of jealousy. Even baby girl Ryder knew her momma was jealous of Capri.
My favorite part of this book was them finding out they were expecting and the proposal. Including Ryder and his family in that super cute moment was so sweet. The way his mother Mina warmed to Capri, even in her condition, made me ugly cry. But why TF is Tasha back? Chic is like a roach man ugh.
Book 2
Now, Jean pissed me tf off in this book and I was SO GLAD when Capri put her in her place and called her out on her shit. And the way Quameer let ALL THEIR ASSES, including her momma, know how he was coming about her? Baby, that’s a MAN, you hear me?! I loved how they immediately welcomed Corleon into the fold and how he allowed his parents to be his parents, respecting the decision they had made long ago. Aimee really pissed me off in this book. Like really pissed me off. This is the first time I felt like them sayin she was slow was beyond appropriate. Heffa almost got her and the baby murked out here smh. This girl and her victim mentality is overwhelming at this point.
Book 2.5
Book 2.5 is where shit really hits the fan. While it shows Capri and Quameer’s growth as a couple, with Quasim and Blair being hot and cold, Aimee’s dumb ass getting caught up and Cappella putting his hands on her, I was all over the place! We also learn that Capri and Quameer definitely have history from their college days. I ain’t mad at it tho! There are so many layers to this book and so much get back. Like literal blood baths left and right.
Let me just say, Blair earned my eternal respect in this chapter. She wasn’t playin no games! Quasim earned my respect too. Like he really bought Blair a building and they aren’t even together yet! Baby, Brandi really thought it was gon’ be her and Meer on the family trip with their daughter and she could ease on in his bed. Not only did he put that heffa in her place, he also made sure she could hear him puttin Capri thru the mattress and even let her know as much.
Meer & Capri’s wedding, and all the beautiful parts that led up to in, had me in literal tears. This was definitely my favorite wedding so far.
Books 3 & 3.5
These books tie up a lot of loose ends including how Capri’s so called friend Jessee, her dad Morgan and Brandi’s husband Martin are connected to all the crazy stuff that’s been going down since the Capone books. They also reintroduce THEE Menace Caselli and connect the dots with Aimee’s school friend Landon who is in fact Landon “cum for the Don” Caselli. Baby that line still lives in my head rent free from the Don Caselli book.
And once again, that damn Aimee and Cappella both pissed me TF off!!! I’m happy they finally figured it out tho. Again, Tasha’s raggedy ass… ugh.
That Monaco trip was a whole damn movie tho. The connections that were made there definitely put you on notice of what’s to come.
I truly love Capri and Meer together. Their little family is beautiful.
Capri bossin up and lettin everybody know she’s no longer a little girl was the icing on the cake. She can and does hold her own but Meer is never far behind. One thing he gon’ do, is find his Suga wherever she is.
This book beautifully sets the stage for the three Quasim books and I thoroughly enjoyed those too.
TW: rape, sexual assault, violence, abuse, kidnapping, domestic violence
Rating: Capri came hard but Quameer came with that fiyah! I love that for Suga and Meer-cat. 🖤
